NECC’s After-School Program

is a great option for families with children in elementary school (K-8) looking for a safe and enriching environment during the after-school hours. We encourage learning, socializing, recreation, physical activity, and community service. (Visit our Junior High Clubs page for details on the 7th-8th grade program!)

Learning and Fun

Our many activities include:

Daily homework help, nutritious snack, and outdoor play time.
Creative literacy projects tied to the learning goals for each grade—helping ensure that every student is prepared for and able to complete schoolwork.
Character development and community service projects.
Physical fitness and sports.
Drumming, dance, and creative arts.
Games, movie days, and pure fun.
Five Minute Mysteries

and much more!

Recent projects and activities have included:

A demonstration workshop on boomeranges,led by world boomerang champion Patrick Surdam.
Making peg games for a family homeless shelter in Bradenton, FL
Sewing heart pillows for the heart center at Vassar Brothers hospital
Starting and tending flower and vegetable seeds for NECC’s school-based garden.

NECC’s enriching and comprehensive afterschool program is available to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. (Grades 7 and 8 participate in our Clubs program. The program meets on all scheduled school days, previously scheduled half-days, and teacher conference days (but not during cancellations due to extreme weather) from dismissal until 6 pm. The program is not open on school vacations or holidays.

Facility

Our program’s home is the former Millerton Elementary School. We have three spacious rooms and access to playgrounds and playing fields. The 7th-8th grade program is at Eugene Brooks Intermediate School.

Transportation

Bus transportation to the program will be provided by the school district.

Cost

Pricing includes discounts for attending all five days, for siblings, and for families receiving free or reduced-price lunch. (Sliding scale available to all upon request.) Details available in the application.

Staff

Program Director Jan Brooks leads the 4th-6th grade group; John Mahoney leads the K-3 group. Rebecca Cossa is the leader of the Junior high group. See staff page for contact information.
