Please call at least 4 days before your appointment, so that we can arrange your trip with a volunteer driver. We can only provide a ride if a volunteer is available.

Care Car rides are free. However, we welcome your contributions to help cover the cost of gas and maintenance. The suggested amount is $5 for local trips and $10 for longer ones. Checks should be made payable to the North East Community Center.
Starting in mid-2011 NECC will be launching a brand new transportation program that will serve the 6 towns of northern/eastern Dutchess County - stay tuned for much more information to come!
is a volunteer-driven service that provides transportation to medical, social-service, and other essential appointments. Senior citizens get first priority, but any resident of Millerton/Northeast, Wassaic, Amenia, Dover Plains, or Pine Plains can schedule a ride if a car and driver are available.
Where we goMost trips are local, for example, to Sharon Hospital and Hudson River Healthcare in Amenia. We also take clients to regional medical centers in Poughkeepsie, Hartford, Torrington, and other cities, as long as we have a volunteer willing to make the trip. The Care Car can take you to other transportation, too, such as a train or bus. |

Perform a valuable service for residents who need transportation to doctors' offices, hospitals, and social service agencies.
Drive as often as you wish. Most trips are local, but we also have requests for rides to Poughkeepsie and other places outside our area. You choose whether a ride fits your schedule and how far you want to go.
Drive one of NECC's vehicles or use your own car. You must be at least 21 years old, complete an application, and have a clean driving record (we will request a copy of your driving abstract from the Department of Motor Vehicles). NECC provides training, orientation, and ongoing support.
Mileage Reimbursement Program Volunteers who drive their own cars will be reimbursed for mileage at a rate of 50 cents per mile, up to 120 miles per week. In addition to the other requirements for drivers, you must have a reliable, well-maintained vehicle.
The Way It Works Residents who need rides call NECC in advance of their appointments. We take the necessary information, then call our list of volunteers to find a driver who can take the ride. If you accept a ride, you will be asked to pick up the client, take him or her to the appointment, wait while they receive services, then drive the client home.
