NECC's Values
Application Instructions
Childcare Assistant: Approximately 9 hours/week
Overview: We have two openings, one beginning immediately, one in late July, for staff for our successful and popular Family Support Program, consisting of Mom’s Morning Out (Monday mornings) and Growing Together (Wednesday and Friday mornings). Mom’s Morning Out is a child care program for ages 1-5 -- parents drop off their children for a morning of creative play, story, snack and social interaction, led by our caring staff. In Growing Together, the parents stay – the first hour is a playgroup for all, and during the second hour the parents meet and talk amongst themselves about issues and challenges of parenting, while our staff play and work with the children.
This program seeks to provide a nurturing and fun place for very young children to have their first structured group experiences –they learn to socialize with other children, participate in group activities, and master important developmental milestones, while their parents improve their parenting skills and get much-needed support and companionship.
This is an approximately 9-hour a week position, year round. Opportunities may exist beginning in the Fall of 2008 to add additional hours during the afternoon if openings arise in our after-school program.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Setup – preparing the room for the children, including setting up any project or activity, and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the room.
- Working with children during program: under the supervision of the Lead Child Care staff, interact with the children including playing, toileting/diapering, providing snack, leading activities, games, songs and stories. Our staff is very hands-on, playing directly with the children (as opposed to hanging back on the sidelines while the children play amongst themselves.) Note that we go outside in many different weather conditions.
- Greeting children and families as they arrive as they arrive, keeping records of fees paid and attendance and conveying information and payments to appropriate staff.
- Helping plan specific programs and projects, including developing supply list, creating daily plan, and implementing it with children.
- Learning and implementing all our program policies and procedures and ensuring that children follow them, implementing disciplinary measures as needed.
- Attending occasional trainings that may include CPR and First Aid, and training in specific program areas.
- Attending staff meetings to discuss any changes in procedures, issues as they arrive, and new program ideas and plans.
