NECC Student Project

Students staffing NECC's table are participants in our job training project, the Community Partnership with Schools and Business.

Cassandra (student) and Tracy (supervisor) at the Market, July 2010

Teens work each summer at the market, visiting and helping on many of the participating farms, and running their own entrepreneurial business, purchasing products from local farmers and producers and selling them at the market. Any profits are reinvested in the program.

The students sell their own homemade jam, jelly and herbed soaps and chapsticks, as well as reselling products:

  • Honey, soap & candles from Pine Hill Farm, Sharon

  • Pickles, sauerkraut & kim-chi made through lacto-fermentation - Adamah Project, Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, Falls Village, CT

Did you know:

  • The Millerton Farmers Market accepts food stamps, WIC checks, and Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks - we want to ensure that our produce is accessible to all.

  • Many of our vendors' prices are comparable to local supermarkets - check us out first before you do your weekly shopping!

Founded by community visionary Karen Kisslinger, the Millerton Farmers Market seeks to promote and assist local farms and promote the value of food grown and made without chemicals, both for human health and the environment. Most of our growers are either organic or otherwise "clean-grown" - all will provide a statement of growing practices upon request!
