Help and be helped . . . Maintain your health, mobility, and independence… visit old friends and make new ones . . . be a part of your community! NECC offers several programs for senior citizens:

Red Cross Care Car and TAP Van: Need a ride to a doctor, grocery store, or outing? Our volunteers will get you there! Most trips are in the local area, but our volunteers may be able to take you to Poughkeepsie, Hartford, Torrington, or other nearby cities. Rides are free but we welcome your donation to help maintain the car and sustain the program. Please call at least 4 days in advance, if possible, to schedule your ride. The Care Car is provided by the American Red Cross of Dutchess County and the TAP (Transportation for Amenia Program) Van is made possible by a grant from the Foundation for Community Health.

Exercise Class: Increase your strength, balance, and flexibility with light weights and gentle stretching at our free classes (held every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 am).

Friendly Visitors and Garden Angels: A volunteer will spend time with you each week, either in person or on the phone. Volunteers receive a background check and training before they are assigned, and you will make the decision whether the person is right for you. Volunteers can also help you with gardening, weeding, and/or raking.

Holiday Banquet
The students in our after-school program hold an annual lunchtime banquet — a great opportunity to get to know the young people in our community. They are always so proud to offer this event, and they learn so much from it. If you’re interested, let us know and we’ll make sure you get an invitation to the next banquet!

Extra Helpings Food Coop
Anyone who could use a bag of high-quality groceries at a discounted price can benefit from this program. Sign up at the beginning of the month for the basic package or several specials, which vary monthly. The items arrive at the end of the
month.
